The correlation between Dina Wind's work and Debbie Lerman's becomes clear through the assemblage present in both their work. While Dina's assemblage and layers are obvious to the viewer in her sculptures, Ms. Lerman's assemblage is understated in her screen prints. At first glance, the work comes at you like a psychedelic kaleidoscope. Upon closer inspection, we observe that the patterned background is composed of repetitive body parts arranged to form a pattern evoking the handcrafted wallpaper designs in the Arts & Craft movement of the 19th century. The framed nude lives in a beautiful lava lamp dream inspired by a Victorian medallion.

Framing the central image implies confinement. In this case, just like the many female nudes of the past, confinement is as idyllic and constraining as a bird cage. The artist decorates the central image utilizing ribbons and trims, adding yet another layer of meaning with crafts traditionally reserved for women. An artist confronting stereotypes might be one of the characteristics defining a badass woman but one thing is certain, both Dina Wind and Debbie Lerman are badass artists not afraid to subvert archaic views.

"Through this work and the reactions it generates, I’ve come to realize that even now, when the female gaze is claiming a much larger share of the artistic gaze overall, it is rarely directed at nude male bodies. I think men, especially the straight white men who have dominated production and acquisition of Western art, have successfully trained us to avert our eyes from what makes them feel uncomfortable, or vulnerable. In '(re)Genesis: Let Us Make Man in Our Image' that vulnerability is embodied, literally and symbolically, by my naked husband."

"Good can only happen if we are able to see ourselves in others and others in ourselves. That is my core belief and the motivation for my artistic practice."
