Birds in Group is from Dina’s 1984 Nuts and Bolts Series—work defined by acrobatic assemblages of steel sticks and hardware, finished with a matte black spray.  First exhibited at Nexus Gallery, Philadelphia in 1986.

It is now installed at the Wharton School's Steinberg Conference Center on the University of Pennsylvania campus.

It’s a fitting choice given Dina’s long relationship with the University—As an alumnus (MA in Aesthetics and Communication, 1974), Wharton faculty wife, and Penn mom to both her sons, Penn was a central institution in the artist's life.

“I was immediately inspired by the daring balance of  Birds in Group, 1984, as well as its graceful sense of movement. Its profusion of tubes, sticks and hardware are masterfully welded together to rise, almost weightlessly, and soar into space.  The University of Pennsylvania is proud to celebrate the art of Dina Wind and this important gift to the Penn Art Collection. “

The Dina Wind Art Foundation empowers living artists, builds community, and supports arts education.

We are inspired by the legacy of Dina Wind (1938-2014), a trailblazing artist and arts advocate whose bold, abstract sculptures challenged stereotypes and embraced sustainability.
