Frieda Fehrenbacher 1945-2000

1978 Wind Challenge Artist

Born in Portland, OR, Frieda Fehrenbacher was an artist, musician, and professor. She received a BA in painting and drawing from Portland State University and an MFA from Syracuse University, New York.


Fehrenbacher taught drawing and design as a professor at Moore College of Art & Design, Philadelphia. Her work was exhibited at galleries in and around Philadelphia including the Rodger LaPelle Gallery, Philadelphia Art Alliance, University of Pennsylvania, Fleisher Art Memorial, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg. She was the first Moore College faculty member to receive the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. In tribute to her legacy, Moore College selects two outstanding members of each year’s graduating class to receive The Frieda M. Fehrenbacher Foundation Award.
